SPM Chemistry Tips #2 - Answer for How to write an observation?

Salam dan hye students,

So, can you find the answer for stating Observation atau pemerhatian khas untuk Paper 3?

Lets discuss it here;

For Set I:

Observation 1 : Before the reaction the colour of solution is blue, but after the reaction the colour of solution is colourless
ANSWER : Blue solution turns to colourless.

Observation 2 : Initial temperature is 28 degrees C, but the highest temperature is 36 degrees C.
ANSWER : Temperature increases through out the experiment // The reaction is exothermic reaction.

For Set II:

Observation 3 :  Before the reaction there are solid Ammonium chloride, but after the reaction Ammonium chloride solution is formed.
ANSWER : Solid dissolve to form colourless solution

Observation 4 : Initial temperature is 29 degrees C, but the lowest temperature is 25 degrees C.
ANSWER : Temperature decreases through out the experiment // The reaction is endothermic reaction.

So, now everybody can get 3 full marks for stating observation in Paper 3 Chemistry.
Good Luck!

SCHOOL - Menikmati Terik Mentari...

Salam hari Khamis,

Marilah kita nikmati suara breezy and sunny day di MRSMTGB. Lawa, kan pepohon yang hijau melambai...πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

SPM Chemistry Tips #3 STATING VARIABLES - How to identify it from questions?

Salam,

I think most of form five students have finish their trial examination by now:)
How is your Chemistry mark students?  Hope that the mark gives good motivation to you as the SPM 2012 examination is coming.

So, during marking my students answer sheets, I've found out that there are still students unable to write and stating variables correctly.  As you know, In SPM Chemistry Paper 3, stating variables is one of construct that will be asked.  This type of question will bring you 6 to 9 marks all together.

In order to solve these students weakness, I've shared some tips.  If you think this tips are applicable, then you are welcomed to use this tips.

to apply this tips you NEED a red, blue and green pen
[you may use your highlighter too but must be in different colour]

  1. Read the question carefully.
  2. Now, UNDERLINE using Red pen the variable that changes in the experiment ---> MANIPULATED VARIABLE
  3. UNDERLINE using Blue pen the variable that being observed in the experiment --> RESPONDING VARIABLE
  4. UNDERLINE using Green pen the variable that being fixed in the experiment --> CONSTANT VARIABLE
  5. Write the identified variable specifically to the experiment being done.
Now, let us try to do it using this example.

EXAMPLE 1 - Paper 3 Essay [SPM TRIAL 2012 - Perak]

MANIPULATED VARIABLE : Type of metal coiled to Iron nail
RESPONDING VARIABLE : Presence of blue spot (that shows corrosion of Iron nail)
CONSTANT VARIABLE : Iron nail / Jelly solution mixed with potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) solution

EXAMPLE 2 - Paper 3 Structure [SPM TRIAL 2012 - Kedah]

MANIPULATED VARIABLE : Type of acid / hydrochloric acid, ethanoic acid
RESPONDING VARIABLE : heat of neutralisation
CONSTANT VARIABLE : volume and concentration of sodium hydroxide solution

Now, you can try this tips in your Paper 3 practice... Selamat Mencuba.

SPM Chemistry Tips #4- How to answer collision theory question correctly

[This post dedicated to all SPM 2012 students]

Salam dan hye students,

This time I would like to share with all of you how to answer the question related to Collision Theory.  Based on previous years questions, the collision theory usually brings you 4 to 5 marks and I consider it as big percentage of marks.

So, lets us figure out the tricks to answer this type of question.

Compare the rate of reaction between
Experiment I and Experiment II.
Explain the differences based on Collision Theory.

FIRST :  Refer to the table given.  Find out the differences between the two experiments.
  1. Different volume? Volume is NOT a factor that affect rate of reaction
  2. Different concentration? Concentration is factor that affect rate of reaction
  3. Different time taken? shows the difference in rate of reaction

SECOND :  identify the reacting particles by writing the ionic equation

REACTING PARTICLES  : hydrogen peroxide molecules

THIRD : Relate the situation with FREQUENCY OF COLLISION and FREQUENCY OF EFFECTIVE COLLISION

Answer:

1.  The rate of reaction in Experiment II is higher than Experiment I
2.  because the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in Experiment II is higher, therefore the number of hydrogen peroxide molecules per unit volume is higher
3.  Therefore the frequency of collision between hydrogen peroxide molecules also higher in Experiment II
4.  The frequency of effective collision also higher

Now, try to answer the question related to Collision Theory for different factors.  Make sure your answer must have 4 important points.

TQ. see you in next entry:)

SPM Chemistry Tips #1 - How to write an observation?

[This post dedicated to all SPM students]

Salam dan hye students,

For today tips, CR ingin berkongsi cara menulis Observation atau pemerhatian khas untuk Paper 3.  As I mentioned in the beginning of this corner, Chemistry 4541 contains 3 papers all together and P3 is the most easy yet tricky part.  So, you need to know the trick to score this part.  Shall we continue?

Observation is ability to use the sense of hearing, touch, smell, taste and sight to collect information about an object or a phenomenon.

State the observation at anode for both experiment

In this case, what did you see from the diagram given?
Yeah, just write it in right chemistry type phrases

Experiment 1 -  Bubble gas produce
Experiment 2 - Copper electrode becomes thinner/smaller

As simple as that...Selamat mencuba.

Panduan Menjawab Soalan Kimia SPM

Salam,

Entry ini hanyalah untuk berkongsi bahawa CR ada mengumpul a few Paper 3 Chemistry questions which I choose from SPM trial questions [2008 to 2010]. Sebenarnya untuk memudahkan memilih soalan untuk pelajar-pelajar kesayangan.

So, entry hari ni CR nak share some infomation tentang SPM Chemistry Questions. SPM Chemistry Examination Paper mengandungi 4 kertas kesemuanya.

  • Dicadangkan pelajar-pelajar tingkatan 5 mencba koleksi soalan-soalan SPM beberapa tahun kebelakangan.

Take care:)

Subhanallah!!!

Salam Joy,

It's been a while since I've blogged about something educational. Last time was on December mentioning about Zinc.

So, today wants to share some interesting fact, which is....

there is one thing that we consume everyday
, without it we will be miserable, without it there are no sparks in life...cehhhhh... what is it??? Sodium Chloride aka table salt. LOL!!! heheheh

Sodium chloride is formed from Sodium ion and Chloride ion through ionic bond... don't want to mention about formation of the bonds, quite complicated and lots of explanation except for form 4 student, Insyaallah... the interesting point here is, Sodium is very reactive substance that could produce red flame if reacted with water. Sodium also can easily reacted with the oxygen from the air resulted these substance must be kept in the Parafin Oil.

Beside that, Chlorine is also very poisonous gas. If we inhale just 1000 ppm, it can cause us to death. These substance also has been used in
a war gas in 1915.
but SUBHANALLAH....when Sodium atom give its one valence electrons to chlorine atom, Sodium Chloride is form ; the substance that we consume everyday, no harm, all the poisonous characteristic is changes to one useful substance in life.... just by donating a single valence electron....

So, the point that I want to share with you is by donating we also could change people life. If it is not by money donation, may be we could start by donating our sweet precious SMILE.

Sodium chloride crystal

daa...take care.

Zinc...Atap Zink?

Salam Joy...

kita biasa dengar orang sebut atap zink...periodic table also mentioned about zinc...Zinc is the 30th element in the Periodic Table, which means Zn has atomic Number of 30, situated in Group 12 and 4th Period in the Periodic Table of Elements. Itu kalau jawab soalan kimia Tingkatan 4 :)

mmm...Tapi tahukah kita fungsi zink amat besar dalam tubuh badan kita? According to http://www.nutritional-supplements-health-guide.com/benefits-of-zinc-supplements.html

zinc involved in wide range of metabollic activities.

So, for a healthy family...lets eat Zinc...:)
